Meeting called to frame agenda for India talks
 Updated :   Tuesday  February  9 , 2010  5:39:13 PM
ISLAMABAD: The foreign ministry has summoned an inter-ministerial meeting scheduled to be held Wednesday to evolve the agenda for the proposed talks with India, ARY NEWS reported.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will chair tomorrow's meeting - aimed at evaluating Indian offer of talks and framing its agenda - at the Foreign Office.

The high-level discussions, to be attended by the representatives of defence, interior and other concerned ministries, will discuss India’s offer for Foreign Secretary-level talks. Pakistan is insisting that such a meeting should lead to the full-fledged resumption of the composite dialogue process halted following Mumbai terrorist attacks that India blamed on Pakistan-based militants.

Water dispute and other issues including Kashmir will top the agenda and comprehensively be discussed in the two-side dialogue, government officials told the channel here Thursday.

India has offered February 18 and 25 as possible dates for the meeting of the Foreign Secretaries. Pakistan has been insisting on the resumption of the composite dialogue process that covers eight issues, including the Kashmir dispute, from the point it was before suspension.

Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit has said that the two countries already have an established framework for parleys and there is no need to reinvent the wheel.

“Pakistan has conveyed to India its plan for a comprehensive discussion on Jhelum and Chinab waters over which Pakistan enjoys exclusive rights under the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960,” he said.
